  The Reserve

Wet woodland, fen, dry grassland and scrub make up the different habitats on this small reserve to the south of Cockermouth. This diversity means that it is a haven for birds, with species such as chiffchaff and garden warbler breeding in the summer and mistle thrushes and fieldfares feasting on the lush winter berry crop.

The Project

The scrubland is currently spreading and shading out species rich grassland. In 2005 Cumbria Wildlife Trust began to thin the scrub whilst leaving scattered hawthorn as nesting or feeding sites for birds. They hope to continue this process in 2008.
