Claife Station, Victorian Folly

Claife Station is a Victorian folly, which was used as a viewing station in the 1770’s. The Station is situated on the east side of Lake Windermere; access is readily available from Ash Landing car park by Ferry Nab (where the cross lake ferry docks). Over the years much of the surrounding vegetation has become so overgrown that the views from this historic site have been seriously impeded.

The National Trust plan to adapt the footpath access for the less-able walker and to open up limited views across Belle Isle to the fells beyond. Viewpoints will also be improved to the east, towards Storrs and to the south to Gummer Howe.
